Final Week Rehearsal Schedule

Schedule

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday April 13-15: Arrive 4:00. Pick up at 8:00.

Friday, April 16: Arrive 5:30. Pick up at 9:00.

Saturday, April 17: Matinee Arrive 11:30. Pick up at 3:00.

(Thriller please arrive 30 minutes earlier if possible)

Driving Directions

Starting Tuesday April 13, all rehearsals will be at Pacifica High School Performing Arts Center, 600 Gonzales Rd., Oxnard. Take 101 freeway north to Rose Ave. and go south over the freeway. Turn right on Gonzales, which is just past Walmart. Go about a mile on Gonzales, and you will see the high school on your left. Drive past the school and turn left on Entrada to the back parking lot and enter in at the back gates.

What performers need to bring

Performers need to come to the theater dressed in their first costume and bring their costume box with their other costumes, make-up, shoes, water bottles, and sack dinner in a plastic bag. Please make sure all clothing and make-up items are clearly labeled. Mailing labels work well for this. Make sure all make-up, including hair brushes, are secured in a large plastic zip-lock bag.

Costumes

Performers will take their costumes home after rehearsal on Saturday (4/10). Please make sure you have all costume pieces before rehearsals end on Saturday. Girls in Masquerade, Own Two Hands, and Grease may take their dresses and skirts home on the hanger. Do not put any dresses in the costume boxes.

Check-in Procedures

An adult must sign the children in and sign the children out.

Children will be directed to their dressing areas, where they will drop off their costume boxes.

Children will report to the theater area, where they will receive instructions from the directors. Performers, please try to come in your first costume, rather than take time to change at the theater.

Dropping off items to performers

No one is allowed into the theater area except performers and adults who have signed up to work backstage. If you need to drop something off to your child, such as dinner or other items, please place everything in a bag with the child’s name on it, so a runner can get it to your child. Please send your child with at least two water bottles everyday, as there are no drinking fountains at the theater. Please make sure any food is contained in plastic zip-lock bags, so the costumes are not damaged.

Eating at the Theater

Children are not allowed to eat in the classrooms, so all eating takes place in the hallway or outside. If anyone has blankets, quilts, or other ground covers for the children to sit on, please bring them. This is much appreciated. Food dropped off by parents must be clearly labeled with the child’s name, so a runner can take it to them. Please send children with water bottles.

Hair and Make-up

Please help your child apply their own basic make-up, particularly around the eyes and lips. Any special make-up will be done by our hair and make-up crew. Hair should be styled at home for the 1^st act number. Please send hair clips and hair bands with your children, as well as a brush.

What to wear under the costumes

As there will be many children in one dressing area, please make sure your child has flesh-colored bicycle shorts and a tank top or camisole to wear under the costumes. Please show your child how to fit everything into his/her costume box, and have him/her show you how to do it.

Behavior at the Theater

We expect all children to show respect to the adults in charge and to the other children. There is to be no physical contact or inappropriate language used at the theater. Children who behave inappropriately will not be allowed to perform.

Ticket and DVD Information

Tickets and DVDs may be purchased online by going to www.pvef.org and clicking on CineMagic 2010. Follow the links for purchasing tickets. Tickets may also be purchased at the theater box office ½ hour before the show starts. There will be general admission seating to the dress rehearsal on Thursday for $5. DVDs will be sold at the show.

Dress Rehearsal Thursday 4/15

The dress rehearsal on Thursday will be open to the public for a $5 donation. The show will start at approximately 5:30pm. Pay at the door for general admission seating.

NO BUSINESS LIKE SHOW BUSINESS— Tickets are now on sale for CineMagic, the Pleasant Valley Education Foundation’s annual musical extravaganza. The recital features nearly 200 Camarillo third- through eighth-grade students. CineMagic will be performed at Pacifica High School April 16 at 7 p.m. and April 17 at 1 and 7 p.m. Tickets are available online at www.pvef .org or by calling (866) 967-8167. Tickets will also be available at the box office prior to the show. At top, students practice their vignette based on the popular 1978 musical “The Wiz.” At right, the Tin Man, played by 9-year-old Carl Anderson, a third-grader at Camarillo Academy of Progressive Education, has his makeup applied during a recent dress rehearsal.

Volunteer Sign Ups Begin Saturday

Saturday is a big day at CineMagic.

First it's the first full dress rehearsal. Cast members should arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled time and change into their costume at the studio. This year all costumes will remain at the studio until theater week. Remember there are no private dressing rooms so please wear appropriate under garments.

Picture Day -- Its picture day also. All group pictures, except Mission Impossible, Flintstones and maybe Kung Fu Fighting will have group pictures. Individuals who order and pay for pictures will also have individual pictures taken. Pictures will also be taken for anybody ordering a photo booster for the program. Photo boosters are a fun way to congratulate your CineMagician right in the program.

DVDs will also be for sale.

Volunteer sign-ups for theater week will begin on Saturday also. Please sign up early so we don't have to make phone calls to fill positions. Lets all help out.

If you haven't yet received your costume, don't worry, the director knows and is working on it. You will have it before the show.

Thriller Zombies -- please come theater week on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday as soon as you can from school. Please do not skip school to come early. On performance nights please come 2 hours before the performance (come at 5) to start make-up. You should be in costume with your hair done when you get there.

Eveyone else should come theater week at 4pm Tues, Wed, Thursday in your first act costume with your hair and make-up already done unless specified on your instruction sheet.

Remember picture day is this Saturday. We will be selling picture packages, program boosters, and DVDs. We can take check, cash or Visa/MC.

Cast Members:

As you can see, the Sat. rehearsals and speaking part rehearsals are every 15 minutes. Please don't be late. Arrive 15 minutes early to rehearsal to change into your Act I costume.

COSTUME BOX: Each cast member must provide a plastic box with lid large enough for both costumes, shoes, hair/make-up supplies, snack & water. Please bring your costume boxes to the rehearsal studio before March 17 so we can pack them up with your costumes. I would like the boxes to stay at the studio until we leave for the theater. This way there is a smaller chance of anything getting lost.

DRESSING: We will have changing areas for boys and girls at the studio. You will be changing with others in your number. When you finish your Act 1 song, change back in your street clothes and put Act I costume back in your box. Arrive 15 minutes early to your Act II number and change into your costume. When you finish your Act II number, put your costume neatly back in your box.

Masquerade girls, you will hang your dresses back up.

OPENING FINALE REHEARSAL: Yes, everyone needs to return for opening/finale rehearsal at 2:45pm. You will not need to wear a costume.

PICTURE DAY: Also, remember that March 20th is also picture day. When you finish your number in rehearsal, you will head to the picture taking area before changing. Parents please be patient picking up children that day.

Because we are using a ticket service there will be a $ .50 fee added to each ticket. This year there will be only two prices to choose from - $20 or $13.50. The $20 tickets are shown in yellow, the $13.50 in red.

We are almost half way to the performance and everything is looking great. Please continue to let your song captain know if you cannot make a practice and please pick your children up on time.

Our schedule we will remain the same until at least March 10. Starting that week or a week later we will go into full rehearsal mode. This means that your child will most likely rehearse on BOTH Wednesday and Thursday for about ½ hour each day. On Saturday your child will rehearse his 1st act number in the morning, return for his 2nd act number in the afternoon and return again to rehearse the finale. Costumes will be worn to Saturday rehearsals starting March 20.

There is no childcare between rehearsals.

Ticket Sales – This year tickets will be sold online starting March 1. Please go to PVEF.org to order tickets.

Family Sponsor & Business Sponsors – Sponsor due date for premium tickets is Feb. 20. Deadline to be included in program is March 27. Please take the business sponsor forms and brochures by the back door and share them with your favorite businesses.

Picture Day and Boosters – Picture day is March 20. Order forms will be passed out the week prior and must be returned with payment on March 20 to have pictures taken. Booster ads are available to congratulate your child in the program. Booster orders are also due on March 20 and your child should have his/her picture taken this day. Song group pictures are also taken this day.

Shoes – Cast members are required to wear closed-toed shoes that stay on the feet for dancing. No flip flops, sandals, heels, or wheelies or Uggs.

Costume box –During Performance Week, all cast members must have a Costume Box with their name clearly labeled. We suggest a plastic storage tub, large enough to hold their costumes, shoes, personal items (hair brushes, etc.), bottled water, and a sack dinner. A separate bag for shoes and costume accessories is a good idea. Make sure every item is clearly labeled with the child’s name, shoes.
Dinner Fundraiser – if anyone is interested in organizing a fundraiser to sell meals to the performers on April 13-15 at Pacifica H.S. please let Debbie Hager know. xhagerx@gmail.com

California Academic Olympics – CAO has scheduled SuperQuiz finals and awards for April 16, which is our opening night. If you are on a SuperQuiz team please let your team know now that you will not be able to compete on that night.

Fundraiser planned for CineMagic

The annual musical production of the Pleasant Valley Education Foundation, CineMagic Live! 2010, will be presented Fri. and Sat., April 16 and 17, 2010, at Pacifica High School, 600 E. Gonzales Road, Oxnard.

The CineMagic Huge Rummage Sale will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow, Nov. 14, at the former Camarillo Library, 3100 Ponderosa Drive, Camarillo. To give a donation to sell, call Charnelle at (805) 236-9967.
Eight years ago Pleasant Valley Education Foundation, in an effort to raise funds, presented a one-time musical theater production. The idea provided an opportunity for Camarillo children to sing, dance and act at the Fred Kavli Theatre in the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. The musical with 75 children was directed by Leah Florence and choreographed by Pam Cwiklo under the supervision of Judy Fessenden, the district’s fine arts chair.
Children rehearsed weekly for three months, learning voice, dance routines and acting.

The first performance was April 4, 2002, using Broadway tunes such as “The Sound of Music” and “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” enhanced with costumes, props and dance. In the finale, Mylar kites dropped from the ceiling. The fundraiser was such a success the directors made CineMagic an annual event.

Today, the program continues to give every child the opportunity to feel like a star. The directors, Suzie Riach and Janet Kildee, uphold the mission of CineMagic with a troop of volunteers, including costume designers, graphic artists, photographers, stage producers, musicians, song leaders, directors and administrators.

Throughout the years CineMagic has received money donations and in-kind services from families, businesses and organizations. The owner of Simple Modern Style and graphic designer Sandy Sampson created the CineMagic logo and the first playbill.

For the 2009-10 rehearsals, the city donated space at the former library on 3100 Ponderosa Drive Camarillo. More than 180 children are involved in the show.

Cinemagic is offered with little cost to participants and depends solely on donations from businesses, organizations, parents and private entities.
Fundraisers are provided to help meet production costs.
Donations are encouraged, and those who wish to financially support the program are welcome.

For those of you who are new to CineMagic, here is what to expect at Registration/Auditions. First we call it an audition, but it is really just a time for your child to meet the director(s). Everyone is placed in the show. No experience is required.

When you arrive at registration you will turn in 1) Registration form, 2) Contract form, 3) T-shirt orders. You will pay your $25 costume deposit and T-shirt costs.

Your child will take the Cast Placement form and will be measured for costumes, and their photo will be taken for casting purposes. Your child will then be invited to sing for the director(s). This can be any song. They may sing along with a CD or accapella. They should expect to sing for only about 15 seconds.

During busy times there will probably be a wait before meeting the directors. Your child may want to bring homework, a book or quiet game.

Each year CineMagic offers a t-shirt for sale. This year we decided to offer another tie-dye shirt. The CineMagic /PVEF logo will be printed on the front, and this years theme logo will be printed on the back.

We are also offering a royal blue hooded sweatshirt with the same printing.

What is CineMagic?

CineMagic is a performing arts program run by the Pleasant Valley Education Foundation (PVEF), for children in grades 3-8 attending a public school in Camarillo. Participation in the program requires no prior experience, only the willingness to participate as part of the CineMagic team. Under the program’s professional direction, your children will have the opportunity to develop new talents, gain confidence and make new friends while preparing to perform in a large theater venue.

How much is CineMagic?
There is no participation fee for 3rd-8th grade children attending a public school in Camarillo, but all participants are expected to pay for their costumes, which they keep. Most participants will have two costumes. The cost per costume runs approximately $30-$60. A non-refundable $25 costume deposit is paid at Registration, and the remainder of the costume cost is paid at Casting Day. Costume Scholarships are available.

When is CineMagic?
Next year’s CineMagic performance will be in March, at Pacifica High School Performing Arts Center. Registration will be in October. Rehearsals will begin in January 2010. Check our blogspot at pvefcinemagic.blogspot.com for more information.
